The Long Season – Isn’t It Wonderful

No doubt some would argue that the games are long and the season is way too long. But really………..who cares?

A true baseball fan is delighted when a game goes extra innings……..we get more (of what we enjoy)! What could be wrong with that? After all, in theory (unlike all other sports except maybe golf) a game could literally last forever.

And yes, 162 games over six months is decidedly a long season when compared to sports like football and basketball (though Lord knows the last two minutes of a basketball game seems endless).

But take a look at the ups and downs so far this season. With the season not even at the quarter mark, teams like the Giants and the White Sox are scrambling to get back in there after a horrid start. At the same time, the Mets and Yankees got off to torrid starts and are floundering now.Chicago+White+Sox+v+New+York+Yankees+1746eAUqBH7l

Like the old Chuck Berry song, “You never can tell”. One week you’ll be up and the next you’ll be wondering – “What happened”? Don’t let the highs get too high and don’t let the lows get too low………that’s the secret. Of course, easier said than done. We’ll see who’s in that frame of mind as the season plays out.

It’s the lure of baseball over the grind of a long season. Things change rapidly and then they change again. You just can’t ever tell.
