AN IDEA WHOSE TIME HAS COME…….

It’s a wonder this idea never surfaced before (at least as far as I know) but there are rumblings about animage idea that could revolutionize Major League Baseball. It’s hard to categorize but let me put it this way…..Major League Baseball would have its own neutral venue. A National Baseball Stadium if you will……how perfect!

Imagine a singular site for the All Star Game, the World Series, The World Baseball Classic…….In a venueimage that is benign to weather, “home field quirks”, and completely open for fans across the Nation (and for that matter the world) to purchase tickets at a pre-established cost (No SECOND MARKET)……… And a (if you will) to serve as a“Mecca” for all fans of baseball…..

Okay, as with anything revolutionary, there will be hurdles to overcome…….

The most imageobvious hurdle would be where to put the venue. The campaign among U.S. cities would undoubtedly make the outreach for the Olympics look like a high school student government election. The economic benefits of landing the site would be astronomical and exponential if managed properly.

Hotels, restaurants, and other adjacent businesses benefit, team stores selling apparel and assorted merchandise, a centralized media center, a museum with a scaled down Hall of Fame, autograph appearances by baseball notables (FREE! sponsored by MLB)…….all teams stopping by to play a series during the season …………the list of possibilities is endless.

As with any business – and let’s not kid ourselves this would be one – it’s location, location, location. StudyNLCS San Francisco Giants vs St. Louis Cardinals would need to be given with one – and only one – factor in mind…………where would it be best for you and me……i.e……your  everyday fan. The obvious locations…….New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and the like offer lots of amenities – albeit very costly ones- so they should be discarded for that very reason. On the other hand, you shouldn’t build it in Montana either. So, it’s a perplexing issue…….

Nevertheless, image the choice of location deserves to be met as a challenge and not as a problem. As with the Olympics, why not open it up for bids? Can your city support family hotel rates, family car rental rates, family style dining, safety considerations and so on……..

As a matter of fact……..why not draw upon the “Field Of Dreams ” theme…….you know……”If you build it, they will come”……. And build it in the heartland of America…..in Iowa equidistant from most points of travel………you get my drift so……

Come on MLB………this is a no brainier……….is anyone listening over there on Park Avenue…….
